Arestin

Fighting the advanced form of gum disease, called periodontal disease, can be difficult when patients have a lot of bacteria lying underneath their gums. This bacteria builds and can infect the sensitive gum tissue.

A common procedure performed here at the New York Dental Studio for this plaque beneath the gumline is root scaling and planing, but the infection may return without antibiotics. That is why we use Arestin, a strong type of antibiotic that battles infection in the pockets of the gums.

The basic procedure for Arestin is as follows:
1. Root scaling and planing is performed first, which removes bacteria and plaque from below the gumline.
2. The Arestin antibiotic is then applied into the pockets of the gums where they are infected.
3.Arestin starts working quickly and continues fighting off infection for the next 30 days.

Arestin comes in a powder form, making it easy for our dentist Dr. Brandon Huang to apply it to the pockets of the gums after completing root scaling and planing. It keeps the infection from spreading and prevents it from coming back.
