Whitening with ZOOM! at New York Dental Studio

Keeping your teeth white can be a lot harder than you might think. Even with diligent brushing, flossing and dental cleanings, teeth can still lose their gleam and darken over time due to constant exposure to food and drinks. If you’ve noticed your teeth are yellowing or dull, we offer ZOOM! whitening services to help you restore your teeth’s color and luster. It is one of the many cosmetic procedures Dr. Brandon Huang offers to help patients achieve the smiles they will love to show off.

To help patients get their whitest smiles, he employs the ZOOM! whitening system, which is chair-side whitening procedure that is done in New York Dental Studio, using a safe whitening gel combined with low-intensity light. The light activates the hydrogen peroxide in the gel, which can lighten your teeth up to 10 shades in only an hour! Unlike other whitening systems that involve multiple sessions and take-home trays, ZOOM! produces results that are both drastic and quick.
For the best results, patients should have their teeth cleaned prior to the whitening procedures since tartar and plaque can prevent the whitening gel from working in certain areas. By having your teeth cleaned, you are ensuing that you get an even, white smile.

Invisalign with Dr. Brandon Huang

At our office in New York, NY, we offer Invisalign aligners so that you can straighten your teeth without committing to a mouth full of metal. Using a series of thin, clear plastic aligners, Dr. Brandon Huang can guide your teeth into a smile you can be proud of.

While regular braces are still best for the most serious cases of teeth straightening, Invisalign is great for cases of mild to moderate spacing or crowding. For these cases, Invisalign provides teeth correction that bypasses the discomfort, soreness and restrictive diet that those who have traditional braces must face.

With a computer program that generates a series of aligners with small changes in each, Invisalign will allow you to straighten your teeth without anyone even knowing. Virtually invisible, the aligners are made of thin, comfortable plastic and are completely removable. Therefore, your teeth will not experience the same discoloration and plaque buildup that can normally occur with metal brackets and wire. In addition, you will be able to eat all the foods you like, such as popcorn, chips, pretzels, nuts, apples, carrots and corn.

If you think Invisalign might be the best option for achieving the smile you’ve been dreaming of, schedule an appointment at New York Dental Studio by calling (212) 588-1809. For more information, visit www.newyorkdentalstudio.com.

Dental Bonding in New York, NY

Of all the cosmetic and restorative procedures we offer at New York Dental Studio, bonding is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to enhance your smile. Called bonding because tooth-colored resin is bonded to your teeth, the procedure is used to repair teeth that are discolored, unevenly shaped or chipped. At our office in New York, NY, we can even use bonding as an alternative to amalgam fillings if only a small filling is required.

Bonding is achieved by applying incredibly strong resin to the tooth in need of restoration. The procedure can usually be accomplished in one visit and allows you to keep most of your tooth’s original enamel, which makes bonding preferable to veneers in some cases. Once the right color resin has been chosen for your smile, Dr. Brandon Huang will slightly abrade your teeth to roughen the surface. Then a conditioning liquid is applied to help the resin adhere. The putty-like resin is then applied to your tooth and molded and smoothed until it is in the proper shape. After it is hardened with an LED light, Dr. Huang will trim and shape it even more and then polish it until shines like a tooth. Altogether, the procedure usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour for one tooth.

If you’re unhappy with your teeth but unwilling to go as far as veneers, bonding can be used to improve your smile quickly and effectively. To schedule an appointment with our office, call us at (212) 588-1809. For more information, visit www.newyorkdentalstudio.com.

Veneers at New York Dental Studio

If you’re unhappy with the way your smile looks, you don’t have to live with it. Veneers are an effective method for reshaping and redesigning your smile in New York, NY. Whether your teeth have gaps, persistent stains, cracks, chips or other issues, these thin, porcelain shells can cover the existing tooth structure in your mouth to give you a smile you will be proud to show off.

Having veneers placed usually only takes two to three visits to our office. During the first visit, you will discuss the shape and look of the smile you want to accomplish with Dr. Brandon Huang. Then the dentist will prepare your teeth for the upcoming veneers.

Once the enamel has been prepared, an impression will be taken of your mouth so that the veneers can be fabricated to fit over your existing teeth. Once they are completed, the veneers are bonded to your teeth to create an attractive smile that both looks good and feels natural. With proper home care and the help of Dr. Huang, you can enjoy your new smile for 5 to 10 years before the veneers should be replaced.

JUVÉDERM®, Restylane® and Perlane Derma Fillers

Our office does more than just take care of our patients’ teeth; Dr. Brandon Huang helps patients feel truly confident about their smiles by providing facial rejuvenation procedures. With derma fillers, he can help you look as young as you feel in New York, NY.

If you’re looking to restore some of the volume and fullness to your skin, we can help with JUVÉDERM®, Restylane® and Perlane. Used to rejuvenate multiple problem areas, from smile lines and marionette lines to vertical lip lines, these fillers decrease the appearance of wrinkles and restore youthful contours. Able to remove several years off of patients’ faces, the fillers use hyaluronic acid, a hydrating substance that occurs naturally in healthy skin. Hyaluronic acid decreases naturally as you age and are exposed to sunlight and other factors. As it decreases, your skin begins to lose structure and volume, which creates facial wrinkles and folds, like those made around your nose and mouth.

JUVÉDERM® is the only FDA-approved, hyaluronic acid filler that can give you smooth and natural-looking results that can last up to an entire year, and it only takes one session! This makes it one of the most popular cosmetic procedures at New York Dental Studio.

However, all these products can add skin fullness for those with moderate facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines that run from your nose to the corner of your mouth (nasiolabial folds). Although Perlane is preferred for correction if your wrinkles are more severe, while Restylane can also be used to for fine lines and medium wrinkles.

To schedule an appointment at New York Dental Studio, call (212) 588-1809. For more information, visit www.newyorkdentalstudio.com.

Metal vs. White Filings

There are two main types of fillings, which help treat cavities in our patients, including metal and white fillings. When comparing metal vs. white fillings, it often comes down to personal preference, as there are pros and cons of each variety. Metal amalgam fillings are the traditional type of fillings, which have been around for over 100 years. They are made from a combination of metals, including mercury, tin, silver, copper and zinc. This makes a very durable and strong filling, but many of our patients don’t like the shiny, metal appearance of the filling. We also offer white fillings, which are made to look just like the natural tooth with tooth-colored composite resin.

The benefits of metal fillings include being less expensive, nearly always covered by dental insurance and no extra technology is needed for the fillings. The process is also quicker because no color matching needs to be performed, like with white fillings. The material is also stronger than white fillings and does not need to be replaced as often.

With white fillings, patients benefit from a filling looking just like their natural tooth and appearing more natural, the tooth being less sensitive to hot and cold temperatures with the filling and not containing any mercury. There are some heavy debates about the fact that metal amalgam fillings contain a small amount of mercury and making white fillings a safe alternative.

Visit us here at New York Dental Studio in New York, NY to get metal or white fillings from Dr. Brandon Huang.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is a dental specialty that helps patients to improve the appearance of their teeth. Dr. Brandon Huang offers our patients a variety of cosmetic dentistry procedures that whiten the teeth, cover imperfections and provide a more aesthetically pleasing smile.

Cosmetic dentistry is important because it helps patients feel more confident and smile more. In addition to these benefits, some of these cosmetic procedures protect the patient’s teeth, which helps save their natural teeth and avoid more involved dental procedures, like needing implants or partials, later on.

Here at New York Dental Studio, we provide multiple cosmetic dentistry options, including:
  • Veneers
  • Teeth Whitening
  • Bonding
  • Inlays and Onlays
Veneers are thin ceramic shells that are bonded over the patient’s teeth to improve their appearance and hide staining, gaps or misaligned teeth. Bonding is a type of filling that corrects any gaps or cracks in the teeth or in between them. Teeth whitening offered in our office gives our patients whiter teeth by up to 6-10 shades. Inlays and onlays are types of crowns, also known as partial crowns. They help teeth restore their strength and shape.

If you’re interested in a smile makeover, contact us directly to discuss the many cosmetic dentistry options we offer.

Porcelain Crowns

Here at New York Dental Studio, we provide crowns of all different types, including porcelain crowns. The porcelain crown is made up entirely of the strong and appealing ceramic material and is fabricated to look just like the patient’s natural teeth. There are restorative and aesthetic benefits to choosing porcelain crowns as opposed to metal or porcelain fused to metal crowns.

There are a variety of benefits to getting porcelain crowns, including:
  • They are more natural looking and feel like natural teeth.
  • The color can match that of your natural teeth.
  • They are extremely durable and strong.
  • Porcelain crowns protect natural teeth and keep them intact.
  • They are stain resistant.
  • Porcelain crowns are low maintenance, only needing regular brushing and flossing.
  • They function just like natural teeth.
Our patients get porcelain crowns for covering imperfections of their teeth, as well as protecting their tooth from being broken or cracked. Porcelain is the most stable and flawless material available for dental crowns, allowing for the most natural appearance.

To determine if porcelain crowns are a great option for your smile makeover, schedule a consultation with Dr. Brandon Huang at 212-588-1809 to discuss your options.

Root Canals

Root Canals
Among the dental specialties provided by our dentist, Dr. Brandon Huang, endodontics is one of the most important. Endodontics is a specialty in the dentistry field that treats the nerves and roots of the teeth.

The primary procedure performed under endodontics is a root canal. Root canals help us remove infected tissue in the nerves and roots of the teeth to help treat an infection and save the tooth. The only alternative to a root canal is extracting the tooth, which then requires a bridge or implant. Most patients prefer going through a root canal procedure.

To perform a root canal, we numb the area, then drill a small hole into the tooth to reach the canal. A special tool is used to remove the infected nerves and roots, and the tooth is filled with a material called gutta percha. In about 2-3 weeks, the patient returns to our office to be fitted for a crown. This is necessary because after a root canal, the tooth is dead and is susceptible to breaking.

While a seemingly intimidating procedure, root canals are routine and are done in about 45 minutes to an hour. Call us here at New York Dental Studio at 212-588-1809 with any questions you have about root canals.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and Onlays
Restorative dental procedures are provided here at New York Dental Studio, which include inlays and onlays. These types of restorative procedures are completed using composite resin, and similar to a partial crown. It is the same basic procedure as fitting a crown, except they do not cover the tooth fully. Patients who want to cover decay or get fillings, have discoloration or staining, or have damage to their tooth from a crack or chip, benefit from inlays and onlays.

Inlays are placed inside the cusp of the tooth, while outlays are on the outside of the tooth. The basic procedure for inlays and onlays in our practice goes as follows:

1. Decayed parts of the tooth are first removed, as well as any infected areas.
2. The tooth is cleaned and sterilized thoroughly.
3. An impression is made of the tooth and sent to a dental lab. Temporary restorations are available.
4. In two weeks, patients return to have the inlay or onlay bonded to their tooth.

If you are in need of inlays or onlays, call our dentist Dr. Brandon Huang at 212-588-1809 to schedule an appointment.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer is a type of cancer that often goes unnoticed because it has very few signs and symptoms that patients notice. This is why New York Dental Studioperforms oral cancer screenings during each routine visit here in our East 50th Street office.
Our patients who have a bi-annual dentist visit also receive a screening for oral cancer by Dr. Brandon Huang. He looks for signs of cancer on the tongue, gums, inside and outside the mouth, cheeks and lips. The exam goes as follows:
1) Patients are asked to remove any partials or dentures.
2) Dr. Huang looks at the outside of their face, cheeks, lips, neck and mouth for sores and other signs of oral cancer.
3) He then feels underneath the jaw and neck for lumps.
4) He inspects the inside of the mouth next, starting with the cheeks and lips.
5) He thoroughly exams the tongue, followed by the roof and floor of the mouth.
6) Finally, the gums are looked at carefully for signs of oral cancer.
Oral cancer is more treatable when it is caught early. We provide oral cancer screenings for every patient, regardless of their age. If we find a lump or sore, we order more tests to confirm the diagnosis. If you haven’t had an oral cancer screening recently, or ever, contact us directly at (212) 588-1809 to schedule an appointment for this important preventative screening.

Arestin

Fighting the advanced form of gum disease, called periodontal disease, can be difficult when patients have a lot of bacteria lying underneath their gums. This bacteria builds and can infect the sensitive gum tissue.

A common procedure performed here at the New York Dental Studio for this plaque beneath the gumline is root scaling and planing, but the infection may return without antibiotics. That is why we use Arestin, a strong type of antibiotic that battles infection in the pockets of the gums.

The basic procedure for Arestin is as follows:
1. Root scaling and planing is performed first, which removes bacteria and plaque from below the gumline.
2. The Arestin antibiotic is then applied into the pockets of the gums where they are infected.
3.Arestin starts working quickly and continues fighting off infection for the next 30 days.

Arestin comes in a powder form, making it easy for our dentist Dr. Brandon Huang to apply it to the pockets of the gums after completing root scaling and planing. It keeps the infection from spreading and prevents it from coming back.

To learn more about the benefits of periodontal treatment with Arestin, call our East 50th Street New York, NY office at (212) 588-1809.

Root Canals

Root Canals
Root canals, while sounding scary, are a necessary procedure for those whose teeth become infected in the nerves. Besides causing pain, infections, if left untreated, can become abscesses, which are much more serious and can involve bone loss in the jaw. Here at New York Dental Studio, Dr. Brandon Huang can relieve your pain with a root canal.

Although root canals do not sound pleasant, they are well worth it to stop your pain and improve your oral health. While there may be a little soreness after the procedure, it is only temporary and usually nothing over-the-counter painkillers cannot take care of.

During a root canal, Dr. Huang removes the infection by applying a local anesthetic to the area and drilling into the tooth to create an opening in the canal. Then he will be able to remove the infected tissue and clean the area. Once the infection has been removed, your tooth will be filled with gutta percha, a sealant, and then fitted with a crown to protect from further infection. The crown also helps improve its appearance.

Once the procedure is complete, you will be able to eat without experiencing pain and sensitivity that comes from heat, cold and biting too hard. If you’re in pain, you don’t need to be. Call 212-588-1809 to schedule an appointment. You can also request and appointment through www.NewYorkDentalStudio.com

Digital X-Rays

Digital X-Rays
Here at New York Dental Studio, we provide a wide range of dental services and utilize modern technology. Our technology includes digital x-rays, which provide more detailed and effective images of the mouth, teeth and other structures, with less radiation than traditional x-rays.

Our patients find digital x-rays to be a more comfortable and quick procedure and prefer them over other bitewing x-rays. Patients need to get x-rays performed about once a year, or more often if they are having a dental problem and need a diagnosis.

Benefits of getting images with digital x-rays include the following:
  • Up to 80 percent less radiation for digital x-rays.
  • Less chemicals used in the office.
  • X-ray images that are processed more quickly.
  • The ability to adjust the images for better diagnosis.
Even the smell of our office is more pleasing to patients, because it doesn’t have that strong chemical smell. It makes young and old patients feel more at ease when they arrive for their appointment. If you need to get x-rays done, visit Dr. Brandon Huang in New York, NY for a full set of digital x-ray.

Bridges

Bridges
Missing teeth are unfortunately something many of our patients experience. There are many causes of missing teeth, such as trauma, decay that led to breaking down of the tooth, a tooth that was weakened after a root canal and broke off, or one that was extracted for one reason or another. It is important to get a tooth replaced, not just for cosmetic purposes. With a missing tooth, the patient is at risk of teeth shifting and bone loss.

Bridges are one of the options we at New York Dental Studio provide for missing teeth. It uses two crowns to cover the adjacent teeth, which are required to hold the bridge in place. A tooth called a pontic is made for the area of the missing tooth. The pontic and crown look as similar to natural teeth as possible, and made to match the shade of the patient’s other teeth. These are all bonded to the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth for the bridge. It lasts on average ten years for most of our patients.

It can take some time getting used to the bridges, but before too long, patients chew on it just like their other teeth. Call Dr. Brandon Huang at 212-588-1809 to schedule an appointment for bridges.

Bonding

Bonding
Patients that are not happy with their smile have options when it comes to restoring it. One of the options we provide here in our New York, NY dental practice is bonding.

Bonding is one of the simpler procedures to improve the appearance of teeth, including covering up staining, filling a cavity with a tooth-colored material, and fixing gaps or spaces in the teeth. Bonding is done using composite resin, which can be mixed to any shade to match the natural teeth. It hardens with an LED light, so the process is quick and easy.

Here are the basic steps to getting bonding performed by Dr. Brandon Huang:

1. The teeth to be treated are cleaned thoroughly to remove any plaque or decay.
2. The surface of the teeth are prepared by being scuffed and possibly filed down. This process helps the composite resin material adhere better.
3. The bonding resin is mixed by our dentist, matching the color to the patient’s natural tooth.
4. The composite resin material is painted on the tooth and left to dry using an LED light. It is then polished once dry.

To restore your smile using a simple and effective bonding procedure, visit New York Dental Studio.
