Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer is a type of cancer that often goes unnoticed because it has very few signs and symptoms that patients notice. This is why New York Dental Studioperforms oral cancer screenings during each routine visit here in our East 50th Street office.

Our patients who have a bi-annual dentist visit also receive a screening for oral cancer by Dr. Brandon Huang. He looks for signs of cancer on the tongue, gums, inside and outside the mouth, cheeks and lips. The exam goes as follows:

1) Patients are asked to remove any partials or dentures.

2) Dr. Huang looks at the outside of their face, cheeks, lips, neck and mouth for sores and other signs of oral cancer.

3) He then feels underneath the jaw and neck for lumps.

4) He inspects the inside of the mouth next, starting with the cheeks and lips.

5) He thoroughly exams the tongue, followed by the roof and floor of the mouth.

6) Finally, the gums are looked at carefully for signs of oral cancer.

Oral cancer is more treatable when it is caught early. We provide oral cancer screenings for every patient, regardless of their age. If we find a lump or sore, we order more tests to confirm the diagnosis. Here at New York Dental Studio, we aim to improve our patient’s overall oral health with proper dental education and encouraging them to visit us on a regular basis. Dr. Brandon Huang recommends patients visit us at least every six months for their routine cleaning and check-up, as this helps us find problems early and offer the best possible treatment. It improves our patient’s oral health and their health overall, as dental health can affect many different parts of the body.

During biannual visits, we will begin by examining your face and neck and checking your lymph nodes and jaw joints. We will also examine your gums, teeth, and the tissues inside your mouth. An oral cancer screening is also included in these routine dental visits. X-rays are often taken during the twice-yearly exams, though not always. We finish the appointment with a professional dental cleaning and recommendations for treatments if we notice any issues with your dental health.

Root Canals

Endodontics is performed here at New York Dental Studio as a dental specialty that includes procedures involving the nerves of the teeth. Root canals are one of the most common types of endodontic procedures performed in our New York, NY dental office. Root canals allow Dr. Brandon Huang to remove an infection from inside the tooth, where it has reached deep into the nerves and root of the tooth. It is a minor procedure that helps the patient save their tooth and avoid issues with bone loss.

Root canals have notoriously received a bad reputation because patients think that they will be in severe discomfort while undergoing a root canal. That is simply not the case anymore. Thanks to advanced techniques, state-of-the-art instruments and local anesthetic, it is a virtually painless process for our patients.

After the root canal is complete, patients are asked to return for a temporary crown. Two weeks later, a permanent crown is bonded to their tooth, which can last a very long time. It is important that our patients get the permanent crown, as their tooth is at risk of breaking following the root canal. It is made from a substance called hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in the tendons, skin and muscles of mammals.
